Productive Workforce

March 21st, 2008 admin

One thing to remember is that in order to maximise productivity in your workforce, sometimes it is necessary to take a step back from work. Somebody who is stuck in front of a computer all day every day will not be as productive as someone who gets breaks away from the computer. I’ve spoken to too many people who spend all day sat in front of a computer and speaking to them you can sense their frustration compared to speaking to someone who has a more varied day.

Break up the day into different tasks

What’s the solution? Break up the day into different tasks. For example, the next time you are planning out a new advertising campaign, call over one of your employees who perhaps you wouldn’t normally ask and ask them for their input. This does a couple of things.

It gives you a fresh perspective. It could well trigger an idea you hadn’t previously thought of.

You are providing the employee with a break form their normal task.

Feeling valued = Greater sense of worth = Increased productivity

It makes the employee feel more valued. This is the key one as if they feel valued then they have a greater sense of worth, and a greater sense of worth leads to increased productivity.

Another idea, is to plan more social events for your employees. Instead of just going out for Christmas parties plan more events throughout the year. This encourages employees to bon with each other.

The key points are that a happy and healthy workforce is also a productive workforce. Don’t let your daily cycle get stuck in a rut.

Variety is the spice of life

Remember, variety is the spice of life.

Working in Tavistock, Devon

March 21st, 2008 admin

Tavistock is a good place to work I feel because it enables you to strike a balance in your life. This is due to its proximity to a couple of things.

It is close to the moors. You could pop up to the moors in your lunch break for example. In my profession of web design I find that regularly going on the moors refreshes me mentally. When I come back I can focus better on the creative part of my job like designing websites.

It is close to Plymouth without being in Plymouth (nothing ruins your day like sitting in rush hour traffic). If you need to go into Plymouth on business then you can get their and back relatively quickly.

Internet Down Time

March 7th, 2008 admin

How many businesses could function with out the Internet these days? It is so vital especially in our type of work especially that if you don’t have Internet connectivity for a while then it can have a drastic effect on your businesses productivity. This is exactly what happened to us this week.

Our Internet conection went down

Firstly, on Sunday we couldn’t establish a connection to our Wireless Router that beams out the Internet signal to our computers. In the rare moment that we were connected to the Internet that day we found out that our Internet Service Provider was experiencing a few technical problems. However, by Monday it still was not back.

The wireless router was at fault

To cut a long story short we found out that our wireless router that we had had for over two years with no problems had suddenly become faulty. Luckily, we were lent a wireless router or else the downtime could have been even longer.

So, what am I trying to say? Well, for something as crucial as a wireless router to the operation of a business, it is important to consider how your business would be productive in the event that it stopped working. When weighing up the situation ourselves, we decided to buy two wireless routers so we always have a spare. Wireless routers have been known to be tempermental sometimes and for piece of mind, it is worth buying a spare as you don’t know when your’s might become faulty and how imprtant a job you may be workign on at that time. After all, a router performs a vital job.

Thanks,

Nick
